Mikael Ahlström
Chairman
After emigrating to the USA in 1980, he worked within coal mining and trading in New York, while honing his interest in Private Equity. Mikael then returned home to Europe in 1985 to pursue his MBA at INSEAD in France, and proceeded to establish Northern Europe’s first Private Equity Group, Procuritas, which for almost 40 years has helped mid-market companies grow beyond their expectations. To this day, Mikael remains a partner at Procuritas – although without any executive responsibilities. Not one to rest on his laurels, Mikael also invested in various start-ups and industrial enterprises outside of the Nordic region while founding Procuritas. His passions for philanthropy and film have been a driving factor in his business choices, inspiring him to develop several organizations in the philanthropic sector and act as an investor / Executive Producer for about 20 Swedish features – several of which have won awards, including at the Sundance Film Festival in Utah and an Oscar nomination for the Best Foreign Movie category at the Academy Awards in California. Currently, Mikael is active on several Corporate Boards. Most notably, he is Chairman of Byggmästaren, as well as for The Perimeter Protection Group. Previous Board assignments include Swedish Match, Gunnebo, Bravida and Lekolar. For INSEAD’s 50th Year anniversary, Mikael was named one of the 50 Alumni who have changed the world. Mikael has also been inducted into The Swedish Private Equity Hall of Fame.
